The Hidden Power of Gayatri Mantra by OM Swami (Book Review)

 The Hidden Power of

Gayatri Mantra

By Om Swami

“A comprehensive guide on how to invoke Gayatri Mantra to realize your full potential”.

The Gayatri Mantra is one of the most significant mantras in Hinduism.

While I was looking for a book on Gayatri Mantra I came across this amazing book on Gayatri Sadhana “The Hidden Power of Gayatri Mantra” by Om Swami.

More than the book title what fascinated me was the author’s bio. Om Swami an MBA from Sydney has built and exited a multi-billion-dollar business to become a monk.

My first thoughts were the monk who sold his Ferrari indeed. It would be interesting to learn from him about the Gayatri Mantra I immediately ordered a copy of this book from amazon.

About the Book

This book is a sequel to "The Ancient Science of Mantras: Wisdom of the Sages " which covered all aspects of the mantra sadhana elaborately.

Om Swami in “The Hidden Power of Gayatri Mantra” introduces you to a simple and easy way to pursue the mantra sadhana.

Through this book, he aims to motivate people from all walks of life to pick up this ancient science of mantra sadhana to experience happiness and fulfillment in life.

In this book Om Swami gives step by step processes to do Gayatri sadhana explaining significance of each step with the help of stories to simplify the learning of spiritual concepts and making it easy to understand for a novice.

What is covered in the Book?

Om Swami starts by telling who the first practitioners of Gayatri Mantra were and how they used the mantra to realize their full potential.

He tells you the meaning of the mantra, the most effective form of chanting, the different forms of mantra sadhana you can perform. Mudras and their significance in sadhana.

He gives you specifics of the Gayatri mantra where he talks about the things you need for the sadhana and towards the end of the book he shares two methods to invoke the Gayatri mantra, one is a comprehensive approach and the other is a concise process.

What did I Like?

I liked the way author has used anecdotes to explain spiritual concepts. Use of stories and analogies drawn from day today life has made the text very clear and understandable.

I have personally participated in a lot of Gayatri yagna’s conducted by Gayatri Shaktipeth in my house and Gayatri Temple. I have experienced the aura and the exuberance formed post yagna it is supreme.

After reading this book I got a better understanding of many rituals that are performed during Gayatri yagna and I now seem to value the Gayatri Mantra more than earlier.

What did I Learn?

While I was just looking for a book to know about the meaning of the Gayatri mantra and how to practice it, this book has given me a lot of food for thought.

The book has helped me clarify a lot of misconceptions I had about the mantra sadhana.

Below are a few things I picked up from the book

-         Mantra Sadhana is different from Praying.

-         The mantra chanting done loudly is the least effective.

Below are some interesting quotes from the book.

“Happiness is direct outcome of your gratefulness. The more grateful you are the happier you feel”.

“In an event, when we chant a mantra such as the Gayatri Mantra, we are not asking any supernatural being to help us. Instead, we are invoking our latent energy; we are invoking the power within us”.

“You don’t chant a mantra to have your wishes granted. You chant a mantra to gain immense inner strength; to constantly purify yourself”.

My Recommendation

I think this is a very insightful book coming from a staunch practitioner himself.

The contents of the book are easy to understand and implement.

Anyone interested in knowing about the Gayatri Mantra or Mantra Sadhana must pick it up.
